How to prepare healthy and yummy Pirandai Thuvaiyal

 Veldt grape is a climbing plant in grape's family. The botanical name of this plant is Cissus Quadrangularis. The species is native to certain parts of Asia, Arabian peninsula and Africa.

     This plant is also commonly known as veldt grape, pirandai, vajra valli, devil's backbone, adamant creeper. This plant has much more health benefits and it has long been used as a natural remedy to treat for variety of ailments.

Veldt grape has vitamin 'C' and Calcium.




HOW TO PREPARE PIRANDAI CHUTNEY(Thuvaiyal):

INGREDIENTS:

  • Pirandai (Veldt grape) - 1 bunch 
  • Urad dal - 1 table spoon
  • Chana dal - 1 table spoon
  • Garlic - 5 cloves
  • Small Onion - 7 to 10 nos
  • Red chilly - 5 nos
  • Tamarind - small in size
  • Grated coconut - 1/2 cup
  • Curry leaves - 1 handful
  • Gingelly oil - 2 tea spoon
  • Salt - as needed
For seasoning ingredients:
  • Oil
  • Mustard seeds
  • Urad dal - 1 tea spoon
  • Chana dal - 1 tea spoon
  • Curry leaves

METHOD:
  • Clean and wash the veldt grape(Pirandai). Cut into it small pieces. When cleaning it, you apply some coconut oil on your hands. Because it can cause itching. 
  • Take a kadai, pour some gingelly oil, add urad dal, red chilly, curry leaves, small onion, garlic, tamarind and pirandai. Then satue well in a medium flame.
  • Then add grated coconut and salt and satue well.
  • Let it rest for few minutes to cool.
  • Grind it finely.
  • Then seasoning it by the above ingredients.
  • Now you can serve the yummy and healthy Pirandai Thuvaiyal with hot rice or dosa or idly or chappathi. If you desire, add some ghee with it.
