Black Nightshade gravy (Manathakkali Keerai Kadaiyal)

 



INGREDIENTS:

  • Manathakkali Keerai -1 bunch
  • Toor dal - 1 cup
  • Small Onion - 10 nos
  • Garlic -  10 nos
  • Green Chilly - 3 nos
  • Cumin seeds - 1 spoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 tea spoon
  • Castor oil - 1/4 tea spoon
  • Salt - as needed




For seasoning ingredients:
  • Oil or Ghee
  • Mustard seeds
  • Cumin seeds - 1 tea spoon
  • Red Chilly - 1 tea spoon
  • Curry leaves
  • Asafoetida - 1/4 spoon

METHOD: 1
  • Take a cooker, add toor dal, small onion, garlic, green chilly, cumin seeds, turmeric powder, castor oil and add enough water, then close the lid, cook this low medium flame.





  • Cook it in 3 to 5 whistle and wait for releasing pressure.

METHOD: 2
  • Clean and wash the Black nightshade leaves (Manathakkali Keerai).
  • Take mud kadai or ordinary pan, pour some edible oil and add that leaves. Then satue well in low medium flame.





  • Then add the boiled toor dal mixture.
  • Mash them all with wooden masher or steel masher.
  • Then seasoning it by the above ingredients.
  • Now you can serve the yummy and healthy Black Nightshade gravy (Manathakkali Keerai kadaiyal) with hot rice or dosa or idly or chappathi. If you desire, add some ghee with it.
