Banana flower (plantain flower) Thuvaiyal recipe (vaazhaipoo thuvaiyal)

        The most common part of a plantain tree is that fruit, which is consuming by the people all over the world.  Everyone knows the health benefits of banana well. Almost every part of a plantain tree is very useful and It has medicinal properties.

       Plantain flower or Banana flower were initially cultivated for eating by South East Asians. The banana flower can be found at the bottom of a bunch of bananas. Banana flower is dark purple- red in colour.




     We can easily prepare banana flower vada, banana flower curry, dosa and so on. In this blog, I will share about, how to prepare banana flower thuvaiyal recipe.





HOW TO PREPARE BANANA FLOWER THUVAIYAL RECIPE:

INGREDIENTS:

  • Plantain flower (Banana flower)
  • Urad dal - 1 table spoon
  • Garlic - 7 cloves
  • Small Onion - 10 nos
  • Pepper - 1 tea spoon
  • Red chilly - 5 nos
  • Tamarind - small in size
  • Grated coconut - 1/2 cup
  • Curry leaves - 1 handful
  • Gingelly oil - 2 tea spoon
  • Salt - as needed
For seasoning ingredients:
  • Oil
  • Mustard seeds
  • Urad dal - 1 tea spoon
  • Chana dal - 1 tea spoon
  • Curry leaves



METHOD:
  • Clean the banana flower and put it into the buttermilk or water. Keep aside.
  • Take a kadai, pour some gingelly oil, add urad dal, red chilly, curry leaves, small onion, garlic, tamarind and banana flower.  then satue well in a medium flame.
  • Then add grated coconut and salt and satue well.
  • Let it rest for few minutes to cool.



  • Grind it finely.
  • Then seasoning it by the above ingredients.
  • Now you can serve the yummy and healthy banana flower Thuvaiyal with hot rice. If you desire, add some ghee with it.
